With more and more states implementing shelter in place guidelines, animal shelters across the nation have seen massive increases in adoptions. People know that since they’re stuck at home, it’s the perfect time to adopt a new furry friend because they can spend almost all their time keeping an eye on their new pup and make sure it gets trained well and effectively. We’d like to offer some tips for the new puppy parents out there!
Make sure you have proper supplies to care for your pet. This includes kennel/crate, food and water bowls, potty pads, a collar and leash (make sure it has your current address and phone number on it), toys, treats for training, and the right food. Some dogs can be sensitive to foods, just like humans! Be sure to watch for your dog not eating, eating small amounts, throwing up food, or abnormal bowel movements. These could be signs that you need to try a different food. Don’t be afraid to do research or call your local veterinarian for guidance or ideas on how to properly care for your dog.
